Minimum job $3,000. Final fixed quotes follow a free site visit — access, drainage, edging and base condition all matter. Aluminium edge trims are quoted separately (roughly $15–$18 per metre supplied and fitted).
An overlay means your existing concrete or tarseal is sound, so it becomes the base — we clean, repair and prime it, then trowel the 15–18mm Vuba resin bound wearing course straight on. Most of the cost is the UV-stable resin and natural stone itself.
A full build starts from dirt: excavation, drainage, 200mm of compacted AP40 basecourse, structural reinforcement mesh, a VubaMac permeable base course, and then the resin bound top. It's a complete engineered driveway — which is also why it carries Vuba's 25-year warranty and 5-year no-crack guarantee.
Plain poured concrete is cheaper up front (typically $120–$180/m² in Wellington). Exposed aggregate and quality paving sit closer to $180–$280/m². Resin bound costs more than plain concrete because you're getting a decorative natural-stone finish that is fully permeable (no puddles, no council drainage headaches), UV-stable so it never fades, weed resistant, and seamless — no cuts, no cracks telegraphing through, backed by manufacturer warranties of up to 25 years. On a like-for-like decorative finish, the gap is much smaller than people expect.
The state of what's under your driveway is the biggest factor by far — a sound concrete base can halve the price. After that: total area (bigger areas are more efficient per m²), site access for machinery, slope and drainage, edge detailing, and stone choice — our locally quarried NZ pebble range and the imported Vuba blends price slightly differently, and Vuba blends carry a 6–8 week supply lead time.
